some "venues" seem to fall out of the sky. the 5&10 was one of them!
the 5&10 was known to the city of north little rock as a thrift store. a tiny thrift store on a then desolated part of main st in between the arkansas river and a huge fuckin' train yard.
i fondly know the 5&10 as that amazing place that hosted my friends' band from portland who, while playing(presumably due to the power of their uncompromising brand of rock) a full book shelf collapsed with all its contents, mostly books, sliding on to a friends head. he, no one person or band stopped anything they were doing. why?
in the middle of all this, in the middle of the song my friend, vocalist of raucous rock band yelled at the top of his lungs "I LOVE LITTLE ROCK!!!!".
he should have!
during the same show i got to witness one of my friends dressing up like another one of my friends, who dressed up like another friend. total local icons dressing like total local icons!
and then there was the pbr robot suit!
the 5&10 thrift store was like, yet another summer fling of a very special music venue. a music church. for drunks!
Shoegaze, post-rock, black metal, dark ambient: if it's gloomy and surreal, you'll find it on the Arizona outfit's excellent second LP. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 14, 2022
Riding the line between indie pop and psychedelic folk, the songs on the latest from The Madeleines are as gorgeous as they are mysterious. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 22, 2022
The Arizona band do right by post-hardcore on their immersive new LP, leavening untempered breakdowns with carefully-measured catharsis. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 20, 2018
