you can tell a lot about the quality of city planning, by the number of surface level parking lots the city has. Little Rock has a wealth of them. they used to be wonderful, lively, historic structures mostly located downtown.
surface level parking lots are basically little cemeteries where culture and commerce use to pulsate.
BALL PARK!!
former business manager, for the minor league Arkansas Travelers Raymond Winder had a stadium named after him. Ray Winder Field. an historic Arkansas baseball stadium. this was in 1960.
fast forward to 2012 and Ray Winder field is demolished.
what does the city of Little Rock do to honor this significant piece of Arkansas history. Yep! build a boring, trifling, surface level parking lot.
no annex to the city park down the street. no annex to the zoo across the street. no city garden, skate board park, farmers market, no youth hostel etc.
PARK YA'LL!!
but the city of Little Rock did keep the score board that rests on the eastern flank of the parking lot! i suppose to keep score of memories that are buried there. parked there?

Riding the line between indie pop and psychedelic folk, the songs on the latest from The Madeleines are as gorgeous as they are mysterious. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 22, 2022
The Arizona band do right by post-hardcore on their immersive new LP, leavening untempered breakdowns with carefully-measured catharsis. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 20, 2018
