the characters in this song are real. the names too.
one is alive the other isn't.
one was THE Arkansas pool and spa magnate of his day. the other is still alive.
as stories suggest, one was reportedly a flatulent, alpha misogynist with a roster of female side interests, the other an educated enough person trying to make something of herself.
Scharmel seemed to be truly in love with Johnny. they eventually married. they immediately parted.
love turned to hate?
possibly.
it seems no one will know the full truth of these two's tumultuous relationship.
one can speculate though!
lyrics
and me
time after time i reminisce
and us
our wedding vows. our love the bliss
oh my
it didn't have to end this way
and we
put in our time
our love, mistakes
and you
exalted my love for a time that changed
oh my
it didn't have to end this way
you didn't have to end this way
and so
why are we here. this time. this place.
and your
original crime. repent. too late.
oh my
it didn't have to end this way
you didn't have to end this way
it didn't have to end this way
and so you find someone else
and i'm out on the shelf
and here i am your trophy wife
was it worth your life
i find it tragic that games get played
but the game is over

Jen Shaw vocals, lyrical contribution
long time Little Rock creative person. Jennifer Shaw truly came through on this song. Jen was sick. Really sick! She belted out her lines. drank some Jameson(medicinal) and then belted out some more. Jens' vocal tracks were finished in two evenings. Jen Shaw saved this song in the very final hour before I moved from Little Rock. Much heart Jen Shaw!
Shoegaze, post-rock, black metal, dark ambient: if it's gloomy and surreal, you'll find it on the Arizona outfit's excellent second LP. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 14, 2022
Riding the line between indie pop and psychedelic folk, the songs on the latest from The Madeleines are as gorgeous as they are mysterious. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 22, 2022
The Arizona band do right by post-hardcore on their immersive new LP, leavening untempered breakdowns with carefully-measured catharsis. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 20, 2018
